CASES:
Lots of vintage cases for sale that I am working on
listing here! All case identification below is gleaned from the
book "Collector's Guide to Barbie® Doll Vinyl Cases"
by Connie Craig Kaplan (thanks so much to Connie). I will include
page numbers in case you also have this great case reference
book. Please note that shipping of cases costs more because of
the size of the box needed, maybe around $10.00 or so. E-mail me if you're
interested in any vintage vinyl cases!
1963 Midge® single case (blue) - dated
©1963, Mattel Inc. It says in white letters on the front
"Midge TM, Barbie's® Best Friend". This case is in
played with condition but still very good. A few small splits in
the vinyl at the bottom edge. The black plastic handle and metal
clasp at the top are in good shape. The inside is lined in cream
colored vinyl. The drawer is missing. The metal hanger in the top
to hang clothing on is still intact. The graphics are nice and
bright on the outside with only a few small scratches. The front
shows a blonde Midge wearing a pink version of "Movie
Date" and in the back, another blonde Midge wearing a yellow
version of "Red Flare". (Pg. 56-58) $18.00
1963 Barbie® single Solo in the Spotlight case (black) - dated
® TM Lic., & © by Mattel Inc.1963. This is
rare black vinyl Canadian case. It features a titian Bubblecut Barbie wearing a pale blue version of
"Solo In The Spotlight" in the middle, with a blonde Bubblecut wearing her red helenca swimsuit on the right and a
titian Barbie wearing "Winter Holiday" on the left. This case is
in very played with and used condition. There was a strip of white fabric tape,
about 3 inches long, at the top where the original owner had put her name,
however I have removed this since the photo was taken and you can barely
tell it was there. The graphics on the front are nice and clean and not
very scratched. I do see one horizontal gray line across the bodice area
of the Solo dress on the middle titian Bubblecut. The case has obviously
been stored with something heavy on top, as it is a bit squished down on the
right side. The clasp does show some rust and the black plastic handle has wear
and fraying to the plastic, like perhaps it might have been chewed on at one
point. The interior of the case is red vinyl. There are a few splits in the
vinyl here and there (3 that I can see) on the back of the top door, where the
cardboard shows through. There is a space on the left for one doll and a metal
hanger at the top for clothing. No drawer in this
one, but there are no markings on the vinyl to show that there ever
was one. Good for display. $14.00
1964
Barbie® and Midge® double-wide case (bright blue) - marked
"BARBIE" and "MIDGE" are registered trademarks of Mattel,
Inc. for its TEEN-AGE DOLLS. Used under license from Mattel, Inc. © 1964
Mattel, Inc. SPP. The front graphics show (left to right) a titian
Bubblecut Barbie head, a blonde Midge head (both have blue eyes and red lips and
Midge is wearing a string of pearls.) To the right of the heads is a titian
Bubblecut wearing "Rain Coat" and a titian Midge wearing
"Sorority Meeting". There is a swoosh of white starts that go
under the heads and wrap around behind each doll, ending below Midge's left
shoe. The graphics are nice and clean, however there are a few scratches here
and there. There is one on Midge's (head) chin and neck and one in her
hair. Also a couple on the lower part of Barbie's yellow rain coat
The blue plastic handle on top is in good shape. There is some rust on the
clasp and metal attachments. The interior of the case is off white with
blue cupboards. One of the black elastic strings that holds the doll in place in
the left doll compartment is missing, and the other one the right has come
unattached from the case on one side. The two Barbie and Midge marked
vinyl clothing and accessory pouches on the right side of the case are in good
condition with both snaps still in place. There is a small rip in the vinyl at
the top middle, between the pouches. There are less detailed graphics of 8
Barbie and Midges above these pouches wearing different outfits. The two blue
plastic shoe and accessory cupboards at the bottom of the left side of the case
are also in good condition, however there are two melt marks to the off-white
plastic on the inside back of the right cupboard, and you can see the blue vinyl
through the holes. There is some surface dirt and scratches here and there
inside from age and storage, so a good interior cleaning would help.
Overall this case is in fairly good condition, although definitely played with.
These cases are harder to find and the bright blue case is the hardest to find
of the colors available. (Pg. 18-19) $30.00
1964 Barbie® and Skipper® Carrying
Case trunk (yellow) - marked "'BARBIE' and 'SKIPPER' are the
trademarks of Mattel, Inc. for its DOLLS. Used under license from
Mattel, Inc. ©1964, Mattel Inc." This case features two
front doors that swing open and outward much like a wardrobe.
Inside the left door are two doll compartments and the middle
section and inside of the right door have metal bar hangers to
put clothes on. Below this in the middle section are 2 drawers,
both marked "Skipper Accessories" The inside is white
vinyl and is in pretty good shape. The outside features graphics
of Skipper doll wearing Red Sensation and Barbie doll wearing the
matching outfit Sheath Sensation and they are both holding
daffodils. The latch is not rusted and works perfectly. There are
a few very small tears in the vinyl at the outside edges where
the case folds open on each side. These are less than an inch
long and really no big deal but they are there. The lower left
hand corner of the case has the manufacturer's logo SPP. There
are a few dirt smudge and spots here and there from long storage
but generally the colors are still nice and bright as you can see
from the photo. This is a nice case! (Pg 45-47) $24.00
1964
Barbie® and Midge® Lunch Box (black) - marked "Barbie is the
trademark of Mattel, Inc. Used under license from Mattel, Inc.
©1964, Mattel Inc. Black vinyl lunchbox with Thermos®. The
graphics feature, from left to right, a blonde Ponytail Barbie wearing
"Evening Splendour", a blonde, blue-eyed, Bubblecut head wearing a
three-strand pearl necklace, a titian, blue-eyed, Midge head wearing a
two-strand pearl necklace, and a titian Midge wearing "After
Five". There are a few thin scratches here and there through the
graphics, about 6 on Midge's face and a few on the Bubblecut Barbie's hair as
well. The inside of the case is black vinyl. There are two worn spots wear the
cardboard shows through, on each end of the inside of the crease where the top
flap folds over. The Thermos has a white plastic cap and the sides feature
Barbie, Midge and Skipper. There are some rust spots here and there around
the sides and there is some rust on the bottom as well. Used/played with
condition but still very good for display. (Pg 97) $40.00
1964
Barbie®, Ken®, Midge™ trunk (black) - marked "BARBIE",
"KEN" and "MIDGE" are registered trademarks of Mattel, Inc.
for its TEEN-AGE DOLLS. Used under license from Mattel, Inc.© 1964
Mattel, Inc. The trunk has Barbie, Ken and Midge in white script font and
heads of each doll in that order across the top part. The bottom part has
a titian Bubblecut Barbie wearing "Knitting Pretty", a blonde Ken
wearing "Campus Hero" and a titian Midge wearing "Sorority
Meeting". The black plastic handle on top is also in good
shape. The graphics on this case are so nice and vibrantly bright, like
new almost. The interior of the case is off white vinyl and black. It has
space for 3 dolls on the right, and one metal clothing hanger on the left. Two
Barbie Accessories drawers would be at the bottom of the left side, however one
drawer is missing. The other blue drawer is intact. The case contains a
knock-off Ken doll and some non Mattel period clothing (some home made and some
store-bought). Harder to find and in really nice condition! (Pg 42) $55.00
1965
Barbie® Goes Travellin' Carrying Case (blue) - marked "BARBIE is the
trademark of Mattel, Inc., for its DOLL. Used under license from Mattel,
Inc. © 1965 Mattel Inc." This very rare case has the exterior of a
small red and white top-wing plane on one side and a red car on the other side,
with a see-through window on both sides, so that the doll can be seen through
the window on each side when seated inside the case. The graphics are a bit
faded over the years, especially the blue sky painted at the top of each
side. Since the lettering "Barbie goes travellin'" is in white
on each side, it has become a bit hard to read now with the blue sky faded to
pale blue, nearly white, in the background. The car side is more faded
than the plane side. The paintings on each side are really amazing, with
the plane flying over the Rhine Valley in Bavaria with the mountains in the
distance and King Ludwig's Neuschwanstein Castle below in the bottom
right. The car looks like it's driving through a quaint Bavarian
village. Please note again that the graphics are more faded on the car
side, especially the top half of the painting. No scratches or dirt that I
can see. The metal clasp and black plastic handle are both in excellent
shape with no rust. The interior is cream vinyl and is very clean with no
splits. The charcoal gray plastic seat for Barbie is also in excellent
condition and the spaces for storage on each side of the seat are also in good
condition. The metal hanger is intact. I have larger photos of both sides
as well as the interior, so just ask to see them. This case is in very good
condition overall with the exception of the fading of some of the graphics.
Barely played with and you can tell. Very rare and coveted case. (Pg 175) $250.00
(or best offer!)
1965 Barbie® single
Red Flare case (black) - marked "BARBIE" is the registered
trademark of Mattel, Inc. for one of its TEEN-AGE DOLLS. Used under
license from Mattel, Inc. © 1965 Mattel Inc. The front of the case shows a
blonde Bubblecut Barbie wearing "Red Flare" with two blue suitcases at
her feet. In the upper right hand corner is a head of a titian Bubblecut.
The graphics on this case are in very good condition with only a few
scratches. I can see a few one the Red Flare coat, but it's not too
bad. The black plastic handle and top metal clasp are in good
condition. There is a very slight amount of rust on the handle but it's
really not very noticeable. The interior of this case is mustard
vinyl. There is a place for one doll on the left side, with no strap (and
no evidence that there ever was one, so I don't think it's missing). There
is a metal rectangle hanging from the top to hang clothing on. There is one
cardboard drawer that has no graphics on it. Lots of plastic clothing
hangers included in drawer. This case is relatively easy to find (Pg 11) $15.00
1965 Barbie®
and Ken® trunk (black) - marked "BARBIE" and "KEN" are
registered trademarks of Mattel, Inc. for its TEEN-AGE DOLLS. Used under
license from Mattel, Inc. © 1965 Mattel, Inc. The front of the case shows a
brunette Bubblecut Barbie wearing "Party Date" beside a blond Ken doll
wearing "Saturday Date. There is a trail of white stars that wrap
behind the doll and lead up to pictures of two heads in the upper right corner -
a titian Bubblecut and a blond Ken. The graphics on this care are in
excellent condition with hardly any scratches. Overall this case is nice
and clean for it's age. The corners and edges even look really good, so you can
tell it was stored very well. The black plastic handle on top is in great
shape. The goldtone clasp on the side does not show any rust. The interior
is mustard vinyl with a space for two dolls with white vinyl strap, one on each
far side. There are two metal rectangles hanging from the top of each
side, to hang clothing on. There are two navy blue cardboard drawers that
say "Barbie Accessories" set in gray cardboard holders. The top
of one of the gray cardboard inserts has some darker gray spots on
it. That's about the only noticeable flaw I can find in this
case. It's really in great condition! (Pg 37) $45.00
1965
American Girl "Barbie and Francie" Lunch Box (black) - marked
"Barbie" and "Francie" are the trademarks of Mattel, Inc.
for its DOLLS. Used under license from Mattel, Inc. 1965 Mattel Inc.
Black vinyl lunchbox with Thermos
®. The graphics feature, from left to right, a blonde, blue-eyed,
American Girl Barbie torso, a brunette American Girl Barbie wearing a rose
"Music Center Matinee", a brunette Francie wearing a blue version of
"Gad-Abouts" and a blonde, blue-eyed, Francie head. Very good
condition graphics with hardly and marks or scratches at all and nice bright
colors! The inside of the case is black vinyl. There are two worn spots wear the
cardboard shows through, on each end of the inside of the crease where the top
flap folds over. The red plastic capped Thermos inside probably didn't come with
this lunch box as it features a Bubblecut Barbie, flip Midge and long blonde
haired Skipper. Good condition with hardly any rust, although some is
visible on the bottom here and there. Used condition but still in great shape!
Harder to find. (Pg. 98) $65.00
1965 Skipper (TM)
Red Sensation case (blue) - marked "Skipper is the registered trademark of
Mattel, Inc. for one of the Teen-Age Dolls. Used under license
from Mattel, Inc. © 1965 Mattel, Inc." It shows a titian
Skipper doll wearing "Red Sensation" on the front.
There are white doves and white vertical lines on the right hand
side. The front graphics are very good with barely any scratches
and the vinyl is pretty clean. Some tearing at the bottom edge
where the vinyl at the front meets the vinyl at the bottom, and
the cardboard shows through a little in each lower corner. The
right side of the case is squished down a bit from having
something stacked on top of the case for too many years. The
black plastic handle on top is in very good condition. The metal
clasp on the top shows a small amount of rusting. The inside is
blue as well with a compartment to the left for Skipper doll. If
there was a drawer, then it is no longer there. The metal bar at
the top to hang her clothes on is still present. The edges of the
cases and doll compartment are bowed a bit from lots of play. The
inside is pretty clean. The Connie Craig Kaplan guide book says this Skipper case is
very hard to find and desirable. This case has obviously been played with and is not
mint but is still really good for display if you collect rare
vintage cases. Cute! (Pg 166) $40.00
1968
The World of Barbie Doll Case for Barbie and her friends (hot pink) - marked
"002.© 1968 Mattel Canada Ltd. Toronto Ont. Made and Printed
in Canada.". The graphic are nice and bright on the front. There are a few
scratches here and there to the graphics but they aren't too noticeable. There
is a split in the vinyl on the upper front edge of the spine. The silvertone metal clasp is in good condition and
not rusted. The white plastic handle on top is also in good shape. The white vinyl interior of the case is also fairly
clean. The "Accessories"
drawer is intact and in good shape, as is the metal clothing hanger above
it. This case comes with non-Mattel vintage clothing, one small doll which
I can't identify, one doll head and
accessories from this period. I assume
they are not Barbie, but could be from other fashion dolls. (Pg 26) $15.00
1968
The World of Barbie Doll Case (white with blue border) - marked
"BARBIE" is the registered trademark of Mattel, Inc. for its TEEN-AGE
DOLL". The graphic are nice and bright and clean on the front of this
case. There are a few rub marks to the blue edges where the white vinyl
shows through, at the corners and two on the left side, but they are not too
bad. No splits. The silvertone metal clasp is in good condition and
not rusted. The white plastic handle on top is also in great
condition. The white vinyl interior of the case is also fairly
clean. You can tell this case wasn't played with very much. The
"Accessories" cardboard drawer is in good condition with one dirt mark
on the front, bottom left corner. On the inside of the lid at the very top
edge of the white vinyl, it is stained lightly greenish, just at the edge.
Again, not very noticeable unless you're looking for it. Over all I'd
still say this case is in very good condition. A few vintage hangers
included in the drawer. (Pg 26)) $17.00
1968
The World of Barbie Doll Case (white with blue border) - marked
"BARBIE" is the registered trademark of Mattel, Inc. for its TEEN-AGE
DOLL." The graphic are nice and bright and clean on the front of this
case. There are a few rub marks to the blue edges where the white vinyl
shows through, at the corners and two on the left side. No splits. The silvertone metal clasp is in good condition and
not rusted. The white plastic handle on top is also in great
condition. The white vinyl interior of the case is also fairly
clean. You can tell this case wasn't played with very much. The "Accessories"
drawer is intact and in good shape, as is the metal clothing hanger above
it. This case comes filled with non-Mattel vintage clothing and
accessories from this period. I could not identify any of them, so assume
they are not Barbie, but could be from other fashion dolls. (Pg 26) $22.00
1968 The World of Barbie Doll Case (white with blue border) - marked "BARBIE" is the registered trademark of Mattel, Inc. for its TEEN-AGE DOLL. This case looks just like the above two cases except it's in much more played with condition. There is more wear to the blue edges and a couple splits along the top left spine where the cover opens. The metal clasp and white plastic handle are in good condition. A few loose clothes and accessories inside that I don't think are Mattel Barbie items, at least I couldn't recognize anything. The "Accessories" drawer is missing. Would be good for storage. (Pg 26) $8.00
1973 Barbie's
Friend Ship (white with red, blue
and black detail) This is the
large domed white vinyl case that folds out into an airplane (not a ship, as one
might suppose!). Missing the
detachable tail wing and loose beverage cart inside. Has all the attached
furniture. This is in played with condition, so it is not perfect at all . The
outside of the case could use a bit of a cleaning, from long storage. It
does
not say "United" like some versions of this plane do, but says
Barbie's Friend Ship on the tail instead. The clasps on each side to hold
it closed are still intact, as is the white plastic carrying handle. I have two
interior photos as well as this one, so ask for those to be sent to you if you
like. Please note - this is a
large item, so shipping costs may be a high. The case itself measures
12" x 13" x 14". $15.00 (or best offer!)

black Barbie®, Ken®, Midge™ binder - marked "BARBIE",
"KEN" and "MIDGE" are registered trademarks of Mattel, Inc.
for its TEEN-AGE DOLLS. Used under license from Mattel, Inc.© 1964
Mattel, Inc. The binder has Barbie, Ken and Midge in white script font and
heads of each doll in that order across the top part. The bottom part has
a titian Bubble Cut Barbie wearing "Knitting Pretty", a blonde Ken
wearing "Campus Hero" and a titian Midge wearing "Sorority
Meeting". This very hard to find binder is in very good condition.
The graphics are very good with hardly any scratches at all. They are
maybe a bit faded, not as bright as they would have been when brand new. I see one
small dot scratch to the paint of Midge's right knee, one small dot scratch on
Ken's white pants, another dot on Ken's head's forehead and a small chip in the
paint at the top middle of Bubble Cut Barbie's head of hair. All of these
are pretty minor. I don't see any tears in the vinyl or rust on the inside
metal three-ring paper holder. Found on page 145 of Connie Craig Kaplan's
"Collector's Guide to Barbie Doll Vinyl Cases" book (pictured in red
vinyl in the book). Apparently very rare. E-mail me for a larger photo.

1964 "Barbie's Adventures to Read Aloud" book - paperback book from Wonder Books. The author is Jean Bethell and the illustrator is Claudine Nankivel. 127 pages (large print). This book is in excellent condition, just like brand new. The spine has never been split and I suspect it's never been even read. The small print on the front says "America's favorite doll, Barbie, comes alive in a series of fast-moving, madcap adventures that will have boys and girls alike begging for more. Join her and her friends and let the fun begin!" $7.00

This plastic case has embossed pebbly texture on each side, two plastic hinges and the bottom and a carry handle at the top. It came with a few accessory Paks in the late 60's/early 70's if I remember correctly. Played with condition but quite Mod and cute. $0.50
Early 1970's child size hot pink plastic
hand held mirror and matching comb set. The back of the mirror
features a photo of Living Barbie and has her black
"signature" below. The plastic handle of the mirror has
a raised picture of a rose in relief and there are rose and leaf
detailing like this at the top in the plastic above the photo. A

Mid 1990's "From Barbie With Love" by ENESCO "Bride's
Dream" Limited Edition porcelain musical figurine. Plays
Musical--"True Love". In the original box however the store sold
her to me in the "Midnight Blue" box instead of the "Bride's
Dream" box. Not sure why, as she was purchased brand new. I
noticed the box label was wrong after the fact! She is a lovely titian bubblecut Barbie. Real lace/tulle
overlay over the porcelain underskirt. She has been removed from box only to
look at a few times, then put back - never displayed. Just gorgeous.
Hard to find. $70.00
